Water Retention and Tired Legs
Causes
It’s easy enough to forget your legs as they carry you through the day — sometimes the legs may insistently call attention to themselves. The worst is getting up with leg pain or the feeling that you cannot walk. These tired legs symptoms can also come from a lack of circulation caused by standing for long periods of time.
Swollen legs and ankles, on the other hand, are caused by water retention. When circulation has difficulty working against the effects of gravity, blood collects in the lower part of the body. The extra pressure on blood vessels causes them to leak fluid into the tissues of legs and ankles. This leads to swelling and some discoloration.
