WHAT IS DEPIGMENTATION PICO LASER?
Melanin is a natural skin pigment that is responsible for our skin, hair and eye colour. Stubborn pigmentations, such as melasma, sun spots and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), are caused by increased levels of melanin in the skin due to internal or external factors. Generally, they are hard to diminish with topical skincare products. In this treatment, Pico Laser combined with Depigmentation Face Therapy helps to lighten pigmentations on the skin.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Pico is neither a brand or machine name. In fact, it is a type of laser technology in which the laser is fired with a very short pulse duration – pico-seconds. When the laser is delivered to the pigmented lesions, the laser energy breaks down stubborn pigments into tiny fragments which will be removed by our body. This is known as the photoacoustic effect.
While Pico Laser breaks down stubborn pigments, a Depigmentation Solution is used to regulate melanin production and remove the melanin present in epidermal cells. The active ingredients in the depigmentation solution work at different stages of melanogenesis to treat pigmentation:
- Tranexamic acid: inhibits transfer of melanosome
- N-acetyl glucosamine: inhibits tyrosinase
- Vitamin C: provides antioxidant and radiance boost to the skin
- Idebenone: provides antioxidant to inhibit melanin production
BENEFITS
Not only does this treatment lighten pigmented skin, it also stimulates the dermal cells associated with skin regeneration. This will result in collagen remodelling and controlled resurfacing. The skin surface is improved in tone and texture without significant downtime.
